Thanks to Sarah Palin Pregnancy Blitzkrieg Late Night Television is Funny Again

The Jokes Practically Write Themselves

While pundits, bloggers and Lindsay Lohan (insert eye roll here) argue the propriety of discussing GOP VP nom Sarah Palin’s pregnant, unmarried 17-year-old daughter as a political issue, comedians have had a field day with the wealth of material from McCain and his campaign team. Given the steady stream of gaffes (and it’s only day four!), we’re pretty sure his advisors’ names are Larry, Curly and Moe.

Here are some of the funny bits from across the late-night TV universe:

“There was also some breaking news out of Dayton, Ohio, today where this morning Republican presidential candidate John McCain introduced the world to his third wife - actually, no, I’m sorry, that’s his running mate Sarah Palin, the freshman governor of Alaska, and star and producer of Emmy-winning 30 Rock…”

-Jon Stewart

“John McCain’s V.P. pick is the governor of Alaska, a unknown hockey mom named Sarah Palin that no one ever heard of. The only other job she had in politics was the mayor of a small town known as Wasilla, Alaska, and now she has the opportunity to be on a ticket opposite of Barack Obama, the first black man she’s ever seen.”

-Bill Maher

“Wonkette Pregnancy Expert Sara K. Smith decrees that these whispers about Sarah Palin not being that baby’s mama are absurd, because everybody knows John Edwards is the mother of that baby.”

Our fingers and toes are crossed that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will reunite for a Palin spoof on the season premiere of SNL on September 13th, with guest host Michael Phelps. Lorne Michaels has to make this happen.

Wasilla is all-i-saw backwards, as in, ‘I went to Wasilla and all-i-saw for sale were ‘I knocked up the governors daughter’ t-shirts.
