ShoeMinx Says, Go Suzanne “Africa” Engo!

Former Olympians Daughter will Run from the United Nations in New York to Oprah’s Headquarters in Chicago

Beginning September 15th, online media personality and AIDS Activist Suzanne Africa Engo, joined by trainers, celebrity friends and community leaders will launch the Africa 101 project run - she will run 858 miles beginning at the United Nations in New York to HARPO Studios in Chicago - a New York AIDS Film Festival initiative.

As part of her efforts to raise awareness for AIDS Activism through this run, she has lost 94 Pounds in 6 months on Oprah Winfrey’s Best Life Diet and personal fitness marathon & yoga training since January in preparation for the final leg of her challenge - an 858 mile run before WORLD AIDS DAY. The project will be documented and the finale will be at the Opening of the New York AIDS Film Festival December 4th.

ShoeMinx is in utter awe of Suzanne. We salute you and wish you the best on your inspiring run! Usain Bolt should come out to Harpo Studios and give you his gold pumas! Hear that Bolt? ShoeMinx is calling you out!

At age six, Suzanne spoke at the United Nations General Assembly on World Children’s Day as junior ambassador for Cameroon. Africa Engo is the daughter of former UN Ambassador Judge Paul Bamela Engo, also a former Olympic athlete and Dr. Ruth Bamela Engo, President of African Action on AIDS and  Special Adviser on Africa to the Secretary General of the United Nations.

In 2001, Suzanne established a pro-social media and events production company: Girl Behind The Camera Productions ( who has participated in grass root promotions of Internet billionaire Jeff Skoll’s films including Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth , George Clooney’s Good Night and Good Luck and Charlize Theron’s North Country). Engo has also worked as a segment producer, director and host for BTHERE-TV, conducting celebrity interviews (including Sigourney Weaver, Ron Howard, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, Jill Hennessy, Puff Daddy, The Roots, Destiny’s Child, Eve, Nick Lachey, Alicia Keys, Lina and others).

In 2003, Engo founded the New York AIDS Film Festival, which was launched at the United Nations as the world’s first HIV/AIDS film festival. In a speech made at the UN to launch the event, (sponsored by the WHO, UNAIDS and the MAC Cosmetics AIDS Fund), Engo remarked:

“My work is to give a gift I received 24 years ago to children: The possibility to dream; and know that the dream can become reality…I know that the media can be used as a tool for social change.”
