New York Fashion Week Spring 2009 Wrap Report: Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Nicholas Kirkwood

Posh and JLo Put the Squeeze on Marc Jacobs in Public

These girls know a good photo op when they see one: Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez flank Marc Jacobs backstage. We know Posh always gravitates to the sexy shoes, so kudos to the bronzed English Pixie for turning the backstage tip sheet into an impromptu Marc Jacobs Spring Shoes 2009 Step and Repeat Board. Posh is all about Product Placement, All The Time. If she could wear her fragrance bottle around her neck and get away with it, we’re quite sure she would.

We love the new Marc Jacobs shoe collection - especially the silver weave. The the dainty teardrop heel and the tongue-like curvature at the heel are crazy subliminal sexy. Extra points for discreet sensual messaging. If a shoe could be a haiku, Jacobs has pulled it off.

Following in the footsteps of shoe designers Blahnik and Louboutin who have produced shoes for Rodarte, Nicholas Kirkwood designed these chain-link wonders. If a shoe could be a hip hop video, this pair Rodarte shoes has its own soundtrack.

Proenza Schouler debuted architectural shoe styles this past week in New York. The upper materials, ranging in type from patent to metallic fabrics to fur, can’t steal the show away from the heel. It’s edgy and uncompromising. If a shoe could be a Daniel Liebskind building, it would be these Schouler wedges. Can we even call them wedges at this point? Oh yes! Engineering 101 wedges.
