JIMMY CHOO TAKES THE STYLE TROPHY ON THE 2008 EMMY RED CARPET
Stars from Mad Men to Law & Order Put Hollywood “It” Shoe Designer Back in the Spotlight

The envelope please . . . And the Emmy for “Best Shoe Placement on the Red Carpet” goes to Jimmy Choo! Anticipation was high for TV’s night of nights. Who would take home the golden hardware for the best broadcast has to offer? But before the telecast, there was only question on everyone’s lips: “Who are you wearing?”
Christina Hendricks did her Mad Men va-va-vixen character justice in an utterly divine emerald green Marilyn Monroe-esque gown that complemented her alabaster skin and red hair. Accessorized with Grecian style Jimmy Choo heels, she was the very definition of “goddess glam.” With those curves, the overall effect was like a sewn-up stun gun in killer heels. If the show’s big win for best drama isn’t enough to entice you to tune in, the clothes alone make it “Must See TV.”
If you missed the shows at New York Fashion Week, the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre was a virtual fashion runway with Hollywood’s most glamorous stars modeling fairy-tale gowns and Fred Leighton jewels. “Official Red Carpet Outfitters” Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera and Badgley Mischka, offered an edited collection of red carpet looks that ShoeMinx first reported from the Toronto International Film Festival. Primary colors, metallics, one-shoulder looks, long gowns, all begged for admiration and photog attention.

But a designer gown without the right accessories is just a pretty dress. Christian Louboutin’s signature red sole may have become practically synonymous with A-list Hollywood events, but it was Jimmy Choo who ruled the red carpet as the “Prince of the Primetime Pump.”
While many of the small screen sirens seemed to aspire to the same Look Book ideal of retro Veronica Lake glamour and cocktail chic, stiletto queen and Jimmy Choo CEO Tamara Mellon took an Emmy risk, channeling the technicolor pop appeal of Katy Perry crossed with the beach couture sensibility of Kate Hudson.

The woman-whose-job-we-covet stood out among the sea of salt and pepper gowns in a daring cobalt blue dress (and matching pedicure!), with the surprise of bright sunshine-yellow strappy heels that read: beach, umbrella drinks and lounging by the pool in a $1,000 a night hotel suite. Tamara looked so good it’s a shame that she wasn’t nominated for something. Best Brand Ambassador, perhaps?
And we LOVE the producers at E! for busting out the “Stiletto Cam” for last night’s Emmys so we could find out what designer shoes television’s finest were wearing. Bravo!

In a return to the red carpet more anticipated than Britney Spears at the MTV Video Music Awards, “Best Actress in a Comedy” nominee Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) was gorge in a single-shouldered gown with a bow around the hip, accented by gold heels that played up the metallic print in her dramatic Reem Arca dress. Though she lost the Emmy to “30 Rock’s” Tina Fey, Christina gets ShoeMinx’s vote for “Best Comeback.”

Also glammed up in Choos: Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit); Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) and Olivia Wilde (House).
Best known for handmade shoes that can cost $3,000 and dreamlike creations often shown with designers like Dior and Lagerfeld, Rene Caovilla is somewhat of a red carpet newcomer. Ugly Betty star America Ferrera completed her retro-style bubble hem dress with Caovilla pointy toe lace heels. Very Mode cover-worthy. Once deemed too fuddy duddy for high-fashion, lace has enjoyed a comeback as an en vogue accent in keeping with fall’s fling with JFK-era fashions and vintage stylings. In contrast, Desperate Housewives star Maria Cross opted for a delicate sandal to complement her fantastical ballerina Elie Saab frock.

If the reams of ruching, ruffles and asymmetrical gowns that decorated the Emmy red carpet are any indication, membership to Caovilla’s celebrity-studded fan club for sensual, super-precious chaussures will skyrocket for the industry’s crown jewel event-the Oscars.
With breathtaking creations like these bejeweled three-strap sandals, could Rene Caovilla be the red carpet heir apparent? Shop ShoeCompare.com for more belle of the ball heels.
