Lindsay Price wears Valentino on the set of Lipstick Jungle
NY Social Diary: First Stop Valentino, Second Stop Cipriani
The end of HBO’s Sex and the City left prime time network television with some awfully big, um, shoes to fill. On NBC’s Lipstick Jungle, Lindsay Price plays fashion designer, Victory Ford. The show is based on the successful novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell (author of Sex and the City too), and the character of Victory is apparently based on the life of New York designer, Cynthia Rowley.

What to say about these Valentino-wearing power babes duking it out in the big city? Lipstick Jungle is to Sex and the City what The Artist Formerly Known as Prince was to the original Prince – a brand extension best forgotten. Why mess with what works? Whereas SATCS minted a genuine, innovative modern heroine – the sexually explicit but still romantic good girl – LJ is content to play dress-up with a gaggle of whiny “have-it-all-but-want-more” paper dolls.
Kanye West to Design Men’s Footwear Line for Louis Vuitton
Hedonistic Hip Hop Meets High Fashion
Calling all Kanye-Junkies: Kanye West for Louis Vuitton will debut Fall 2008. The collaboration between the rapper and the luxury label will take the venerable brand in a brave new direction, capitalizing on the success of LV’s darling art world celebrity designer, Takashi Murakami. It’s one big “love-in” of intersecting talent as Murakami recently worked on design elements for Kanye’s album, Graduation. This KW/LV co-branding is the result of a long courtship, pre-dating the days when Kanye dubbed himself the “Louis Vuitton Don”, decorating his crib with classic LV steamer trunks.
Kanye’s certainly the most high-profile hip hop icon to embrace old money, luxury label brands. He’s gone one step further by cultivating “A Gentleman’s Style” all his own, modernizing and democratizing it at the same time. ShoeMinx loves this mixing of “high” and “low” references, as seen by this Louis Vuitton trash bag:
Poised on the vanguard of dressing, Kanye is not easily categorized. In one media hit he’s shirtless with leather pants and chains, very street - in an appearance the next day, he’s in a bespoke suit few could afford. ShoeMinx is curious to see what he comes up with; we’ll keep you posted…. peace out.
