Kelly Ripa in the NYC High Heel Marathon: “Like My Pedicure?”
Famously Sunny Talk Show Bunny Goes Beyond *Bubbly* into Just Plain Pathologically Insane

As if it wasn’t hard enough living in the July gridlock that is Manhattan. As if it isn’t hard enough to compete in a marathon. As if it isn’t hard enough to do an 8 hour day in heels. Some brainiac has decided that high heel marathons for charity is a “great” idea. Has anyone heard of shin splints, stress fractures, pulled hamstrings, twisted ankles, iliotibial band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendinitis? And we just get that going to the corner store in Chanel stilettos.
It’s somehow fitting that the latest high heel marathon has jumped across the pond from London to fashion-obsessed Manhattan. In the last London race, a woman broke her ankle when her heel snapped off. Come on people, marathons were meant for Nike not Manolo! From the NY Post:
..When the bubbly blond co-host of “Live with Regis & Kelly” saw a news story about an international high-heel marathon, she bragged to Executive Producer Michael Gellman that if there was one in New York, she’d win.
More than 500 participants - including 11 men - from 40 states will compete in Regis and Kelly’s first-ever High Heel-a-thon in Central Park this morning for a chance at first place and $25,000.
“Kelly is known for her shoes. So when she was bragging that she’d win, we knew we had to do it,” Gellman says. “I’ve run in high heels trying to catch a cab, running to the bus, running to go through my life. I know what it’s like - it’s not pleasant. I just want to go there and do it,” Ripa says, wearing 4-inch, brown YSL’s. “I swear to you, I’m terrified - I’m terrified! There I said it, I’m terrified.
Any Upper East Side woman worth her weight in Gucci pumps knows how to navigate the city streets in high heels. She manuvers Meatpacking cobblestone in Miu Miu, chases cabs in Choo and drop off her kids in Dior. But come on, this is ridiculous.
Now this is the kind of shoe marathon dreams are made of:

Designed for runners looking for the ultimate lightweight, flexible package, the Women’s Nike Zoom RS+ is perhaps the brand’s most responsive running shoe ever. Built on the mold engineered specifically for marathon great Paula Radcliff, this low-profile design engages the quick-paced runner who needs a shoe that responds instantly when she needs to kick it into high gear.

Gwyneth vs. Liz vs. Carolyn vs. Hilary: Who Wore the Best Shoes?
This Just In> A Dueling Black Pump Shoe-Off at Bloomingdales!

ShoeMinx spotted a veritable Spokesmodel Walk-Off yesterday between Gwyneth Paltrow, Liz Hurley, Carolyn Murphy and Hilary Rhoda. We imagine an Estee Lauder corporate memo calling for mandatory black pumps circulated to the fabulous four’s personal stylists. Because we can’t imagine Liz calling Hilary yesterday morning and insisting, “Don’t dare wear Fendi - I’m wearing Fendi!”

After all, in a scheduled department store appearances like this, do the A-Listers get to call 1st dibs on shoes over B-Listers? We’re thinking this must’ve been an awkward afternoon for Gwyneth, who really shouldn’t be in a pu-pu platter celeb endorsement line up such as this. With that alabaster skin… why doesn’t she have her own skincare line? (Maybe because she’s not an endorsement junkie)
We like Hilary Rhoda’s Donna Karan choice and Gwyneth’s Givenchy, but here’s a link to an even saucier black pump for sale. Go crazy ladies!
