Batman The Dark Knight: Maggie Gyllenhaal is One to Watch This Summer

ShoeMinx has a feeling that Maggie Gyllenhaal will blow Katie Holmes out of the water when it comes to filling Katie’s shoes in the coveted role of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, opening next Friday, July 18th.

Maggie’s a solid performer and is bound to have a kinetic chemistry with Christian Bale. ShoeMinx has been crushing on Maggie since drooling over her Mary Jane shoes in indie cult hit Secretary.

The critically acclaimed actress was quick to distance herself from Tom Cruise’s wife, who received lukewarm reviews for Batman Begins. If you’ve been following along, several different actresses were rumored to have been up for the role. Emily Blunt, Rachel McAdams, and several others were all rumored to be in contention along with Maggie.

“I’m not walking into Katie Holmes’ performance,” Gyllenhaal said when the announcement of her attachment to the film was made last year. “I’m thinking of it as an opportunity to play somebody who’s alive and smart. Chris (Nolan the director) asked me to do this because he wanted me, not because he wants some generic lady in a dress.”
