Project Runway Redux> Shiny Dresses and Metallic Peep-Toes
Natalie Portman Works It as the Guest Judge
for the Eco-Friendly Episode

Wednesday’s Project Runway was all about the repeat. Okay, it was really about eco-friendly design and Natalie Portman gorgeousness, but thanks to “Team Ugly Brown Fabric,” we were certainly assaulted/blessed (depending on perspective, we suppose) with much cocktail-dress repetition.

Apparently the selection of organic fabrics at MOOD is limited to a brown silk-hemp blend. Or at least models who know little of textiles seemed to think so. So three of them brought back armloads of the impossible material, giving their designers the frustrating challenge of making each look distinctive. It was a shiny brown, déjà vu runway nonetheless.

And then there were the shoes. Since we’re more than willing to look to up-and-coming designers for emerging trends, we’re paying attention. Last week’s winning look sported metallic heels. This week continued the trend. Except that in keeping with the trend of repetition, no less than three of the looks sported the same peep-toes.

We can take a hint. Metallic it is. Although we’re not sure if Natalie would approve of the leather-ness. In fact, all of Stella’s leather-talk pretty much ensured that she’ll never be besties with our favorite Hollywood vegan.
Check out the Gucci Metallic Peep Toe shoes or these Siren Red Dolce Gabbana pumps as seen on Project Runway.

Note: Just because we endorse the metallic pump does not mean we endorse the awkward-fitting sack designed by “auf’d” Wesley.
For those wanting to look like a winner, go red. Because bright is in. As is Dorothy.

Heidi Klum Launches Project Runway’s New Season with a Bang
Auf She Goes…

It’s a good summer to be Heidi Klum. She’s nominated for an Emmy. Her legs are insured for more than, well, everyone else’s. Project Runway premiered last week to record ratings on Bravo. The Swiss named a rose after her in Geneva. And she has a husband who wakes her every morning by gently singing “Kiss from a Rose” in her ear. No offense, Tyra, but we’d rather by Auf’d by Heidi than accepted by you. Klum is our pick of Supermodel-turned-Mogul any day.
Of course, great “Welcome to Project Runway” power comes great promotional responsibility. And so she’s doing the rounds, hitting up talk shows and red-carpet events, making sure we don’t forget that - A) Project Runway is better than Rock of Love, and B) she’s the crown jewel of the show’s brand.
On a recent visit to Conan, she showed off her $2 million legs in a pair of hot peep-toe pumps. Her sexy little black dress is by Nikolaki, the line co-designed by Runway alum (and ShoeMinx favorite) Nick Verroes.
The talk-show circuit is only successful if we all tune in to watch people make gowns out of produce. Which we did. Because we do what Heidi tells us. And while no one had any chance of surpassing Austin Scarlett’s first-season brilliance, there were shining moments of promise that will keep us tuning in.
Would we wear Kelli’s winning dress? Maybe. Would we wear her metallic shoes? Heck, yeah. Bluefly, anticipating our reaction, has picked out its best Project Runway-inspired metallic pumps just for us. So when you’re done stitching your coffee filters together, be sure to head on over and order yourself some bronze treasures.
We wouldn’t hesitate to put these Giuseppe Zanotti rounded-toe pumps on our shoe wall. And they’re handmade. Heidi would approve.

Nothing beats a corn-husk masterpiece. Farmers should thank Austin for making crops sexy.
