Are Bad Jeans the Reason Singer is the Butt of Bad Jokes?

Jessica Simpson’s figure has always gotten a lot of attention.  But the Dukes of Hazzard star’s current state of bootyliciousness is causing more of a stir than when she was cavorting in Daisy Dukes.

The former pop star turned country singer showed off new curves in a pair of high-waisted jeans and a double leopard belt as she performed songs from her album “Do You Know” at a Florida concert and her appearance sent tongues wagging.

While some bloggers have been harsh and called Simpson fat, the ladies over at Slaves to Fashion think the unflattering photos are  the result of a pretty girl wearing a bad pair of Mom Jeans. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz defended her sis on her blog, saying she was “completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight…I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline.” Amen!

Never one to miss any opportunity for self-promotion, Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality star Kim Kardashian came to Jess’ defense as one curvy girl to another. Carmen Electra and Heidi Klum also offered their support.  Even the Irresistible singer’s ex Nick Lachey er . . . weighed in on the Great Jessica Weight Debate, wishing her happiness “whatever sizes that comes in.”  Honestly, Papa Joe should have included a “no comment” clause or something in the couple’s divorce agreement.

And then the whole thing really took a turn somewhere off the highway between Hollyweird and the Twilight  Zone.  In an interview with President Obama, Today Show anchor Matt Lauer pointed out that the new prez was bumped from Us Weekly’s cover shot of his wife and daughters to promo a feature about Jess’ weight.  To which Obama dryly commented that she’s “in a weight battle, apparently.” Now some sites (cough*Fox News*cough) are implying the president is making fun of Jessica’s weight.  Really, people? Really?

In her first performance since the flap over her figure, Jess managed to ignore that everyone in the entire world is mentally obsessing about her BMI while strutting her stuff in a pair of skin-tight leather pants, a hip-length black jacket, a killer pair of heels.  And to further drive home the point, she kicked off her set with the ultimate bite-me anthem, “These Boots are Made for Walking.”

We’ve all had our fat days.  But a great pair of heels, like these Jessica Simpson ‘Salina’ pumps, instantly create a longer, leaner silhouette.  So go ahead, have an extra helping of ice cream.  Then go shopping for shoes!

Heidi Klum Strikes a Pose on Golden Globes Red Carpet in Christian Louboutin

Whatever Statement She’s Making, We Like It!

Leave it to a supermodel to dim the star wattage of Hollywood’s glamourati at the Golden Globes.  Heidi Klum, Victoria’s Secret beauty and Project Runway MIC (model-in-charge) stood out from the low-key, ground-grazing gowns in a playful vintage James Galanos pouf dress, complete with a large red rosette.  So cute!  And thankfully short. It would simply be a crime against fashion to hide those absolutely wicked 5-inch Christian Louboutin sandals under reams of fabric.  Heidi is the picture perfect portrait of sinful and sweet.  And her “Kiss From a Rose” hubby Seal was on hand to provide a gorgeous arm to help her keep her balance.  Hmmm, perhaps he’s the inspiration for the floral flourish. Musical and sartorial coordination definitely gets our vote for Best Dressed Couple.  We wonder if Heidi’s PR cohorts Michael Kors and Nina Garcia (we always imagine her name said in Heidi’s accent, don’t you?) would auf her look or give it top marks.
