Beyonce Vs. Rihanna: Who is The Fiercest One of All?
Mrs. Jay-Z Goes Edgy in Gareth Pugh and Alexander McQueen-And That Metal Glove, Of Course
Talk to the (metal) hand, Rihanna. Beyonce and her musical alter ego Sasha Fierce are ready to bring it for Pop Diva Supremacy.
It all started with that cyborg metal glove. Beyonce, sorry Sasha, first wore it to accessorize her leotard in her “Single Ladies” video. But then it took on a life of its own, appearing on her manicured hand at red-carpet appearances and live performances, including the MTV Europe Music Awards where she paired it with a Gareth Pugh dress and again with Alexander McQueen at the World Music Awards instead of her usual frou-frou pageant gowns. Little sis Solange, who’s working on carving a niche for herself as the “avant-garde-y one” is probably pissed that her older sis is trying to one-up her. Again.
And there’s Bey again with the glove in pictures for her new album, I Am Sasha Fierce and sporting the Thierry Mugler motorcycle top from George Michael’s “Too Funky” video. But borrowing the whole Garth Brooks-Chris Gains alter-ego thing, Michael Jackson’s solo glove shtick and Mr. “I Want Your Sex’s” costuming does not a high-fashion diva make. Regular dress heels with Gareth Pugh? A ponytail and smoky eyes? It’s like she’s half-heartedly trying but doesn’t really want to kick off the stilettos and take it to the next level. If she did, she’d look like . . . well, this:
Rihanna picked up a trophy for Favorite Female Artist at the American Music Awards and wins ShoeMinx’s award for Most Dangerous Outfit of the Night in a spiky bodice with biker chains and thigh-high boots. Now that’s fierce.
Even Christian Siriano would agree that these Robert Clergerie gladiator-style sandals with futuristic flare are fierce and fabulous.
